Is it Time to Replace Your Glass Shower Door?

Is it Time to Replace Your Glass Shower Door?

Walking into your shower and shutting the glass door allows you to have a nice, hot relaxing soak without a shower curtain sticking to your legs. While it's pretty obvious when to replace a shower curtain due to heavy mildew or cracking, how can you tell when it is time to replace your glass shower door? These helpful hints will provide you with a quick checklist to see if it is time to replace your door or simply to do some maintenance.

Visual Inspection

A quick visual inspection of your shower door is often enough to tell you whether it is time to make a replacement. If you see any of the following in your glass door, it is time to replace:

  • Door does not close properly
  • You see rust or corrosion around the frame
  • You constantly find yourself mopping up water from leaks around the door
  • There are gaps in various places around the door
  • Visible cracks or discoloration in the glass

Installation Issues

Even if your glass shower door was installed by a professional, time can still damage the door. Many glass doors are installed on a system of metal tracks, which is the ideal environment to gather rust, mold, mildew and other debris. Over time, the fit of the door within the metal track shifts, causing the frame to eventually warp so the door doesn't close as tightly as it did in the past. Fortunately, there is a solution — a frameless glass shower door, which solves many of the problems you will see with the standard track system.

Our specialized ShowerGuard™ glass is patented to ensure a strong seal on the glass surface to protect the beauty and appearance of the glass while preventing chemical corrosion -- which is incredibly damaging to your shower.

Quick Fixes

If you have a hinged shower door system, there are some quick fixes that will help with any challenges you're having with your doors. Follow these steps if you notice that your glass shower door is sagging or is becoming difficult to close.

  • Use a screwdriver to tighten loose screws around the door
  • Use a toothpick or toothbrush to remove residue from around the door
  • Check the level of the door, and adjust by tightening or loosening the framing screws around the door
  • Adjust hinges as needed to ensure door stays sag-free

New Technology in Glass

Our specialized ShowerGuard™ glass is patented to ensure a strong seal on the glass surface to protect the beauty and appearance of the glass while preventing chemical corrosion, which is incredibly damaging to your shower. This new technology provides advanced resistance to heat, hard water, humidity, soap buildup and cleaning products that can be abrasive. This allows your shower door to look new even after years of use and wear.
