Signs It's Time to Renovate Your Shower

Signs It's Time to Renovate Your Shower

Do you cringe a bit every time you step into the shower in your bathroom? If you do, then you already know it is well past time to renovate. But for those people who don't hate using their current showers, there are several more subtle signs which will tell you that now is the right time to replace it.

Any Visible Damage

Showers get damaged through use and abuse. Since you are at your most vulnerable when using a shower, it needs to be free of any damage which may cause you harm. A chipped shower pan or a cracked sliding door may not seem like a big deal, but this type of damage can cause serious injuries to you or someone in your family.

Leaks

Over time, a shower can develop leaks when the silicone sealants, which make the shower enclosure watertight, lose their elasticity or significantly loosen. This allows water to seep out of your shower and can cause water damage to your floor. If you notice puddles on the bathroom floor, this may be the cause.

Stubborn Stains, Mildew or Mold

No one wants to bathe in a dirty shower. Besides having to deal with the yuck factor, stains and mildew can indicate water damage.  If your shower has several stains which persist even after scrubbing, the only solution may be to replace your shower. Even more important than stains and mildew is the appearance of mold. Mold is dangerous to your health and needs to be addressed as soon as possible.

Difficulty Using the Shower

An inconvenient layout or a deep tub can make getting in and out of a shower difficult as well as the dangers it can pose. Everyone loses flexibility as they age and what was the ideal bathroom years ago may not be the best solution for you now. You may prefer a new shower with proper grab bars, a lower shower pan or even a sit-down option to making showering safer and more convenient.

Disappointing Appearance

Although the appearance of your shower is not as critical as some other signs on this list, it is still an important factor when it comes to deciding if you should renovate. You should not have to live with an out-of-date style or horrible color palette. Take a few photos of your shower, and if you feel too embarrassed to post them online, maybe you need to consider updating it.
